Ashanti’s mission is to celebrate the brilliance of traditional African craft, keeping it alive through contemporary design styling. We believe in helping as many hands as we can, and doing better for our planet in the process.
We work with talented artisans living in remote villages, doing our best to strengthen their livelihoods to make a positive ‘Afronomical’ contribution to help future generations succeed. We’re also fully committed to being eco-conscious; our materials are sustainably and locally sourced – from the bamboo that creates a lampshade frame, to our signature fabric that covers it.
With an ethos based on three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economical, we find something most powerful about the storytelling that happens when creativity, culture, conscious living, and craft come together to turn waste (‘nothing’) into interesting aesthetics and interior works of art.
All our products are handwoven in some way, with different techniques and materials… all showcasing their own colour combination, look, and feel, which really highlights the simplicity and beauty in the resourcefulness that comes with Mamma Africa’s way of doing things.
Each Ashanti piece tells a story of the hands that crafted it… hands that have creative license to weave their own interpretations of the colours that the clothing industry makes available to us through offcuts in any given ‘season’.
